Originally from the field of industrial design, Antonio Citterio has already made a name for himself as an architect of buildings and as an interior designer.
That is why the special spatial requirements of the bathroom are always taken into account in his designs.
Architect, furniture and industrial designer Antonio Citterio has been causing a stir for decades. He always combines aesthetic artifice with practical thinking, because, as he says, he tries "to provide simple answers to reality."
Although Antonio Citterio, who was born in Meda, Italy, in 1950, began his career in industrial design, he sees himself first and foremost as an architect. In the 1980s and 1990s, Citterio worked with the architect Terry Dwan on the design of buildings in Europe and Japan.
He then devoted himself to interior design and gained international renown through his work for leading Italian furniture labels. His designs are mainly found in the home, but also in the bathroom and office.
Citterio has already received the prestigious Compasso d'oro ADI three times, in 1987, 1994 and 2022. The timing of the respective awards makes it clear that Antonio Citterio is not one to rest on past successes. His style, which is characterized by simplicity of form but sophistication of detail, has always created elegant and homely results.
Designer Antonio Citterio created the Aurena series for Duravit. Citterio's background as an architect is evident in his choice of the golden ratio as a source of inspiration, as this formula is considered the epitome of aesthetic harmony in architecture.
The result is perfectly balanced proportions that are both orderly and visually appealing – a prime example of timeless elegance. Antonio Citterio has clearly formulated his thoughts on bathroom design: "The bathroom has become a personal space that conveys a sense of satisfaction. It is no longer just about function, but rather about aesthetic tension."
