Clay boards panels made by clay
Tierrafino clay boards panels are made of clay and fiberglass. The 1000 x 625 x 22 or 16 mm thick boards are ideal for drywall construction and, for environmentally conscious individuals, replace plasterboard.
Installation is extremely simple and saves drying time. With just two thin layers of plaster, construction is quick and economical.
Do not forget to use jute or fibreglass mesh for the joints incorporated into the plaster.

CLAY BOARDS INSTALLATION (APPLICATION)
Installing clay boards is similar to applying other types of panels. Clay boards can be fixed to beams, battens, wood boards, brick walls, metal studs and other bearing constructions.
Clay boards are installed in a bond. Seams between boards must jump from the seams in the next row by at least 25 cm. Clay boards are cut to size using stone mason’s- or carpenter’s tools. Breaking the boards is done by cutting in on both sides and then breaking them on the edge of a table. Install boards with the smooth side to the wall, leaving the rougher side with a good mechanical key to plaster onto.
WALLS
Install on sufficiently load bearing constructions. The distance between beams, battens or metal stud must be max. 31,25 cm. Use 5 x 50 mm screws. Use a minimum of 9 screws per clay board. Use stainless steel screws and rings in humid areas.

AREA OF APPLICATION
Wall panels for application on beams, battens, wood boards, brick walls, metal studs and other load bearing constructions. Do not apply where there is a chance of direct contact with water. Only applicable in the exterior where protected from direct contact with water.

SAFETY ADVICE
Avoid contact with eyes and mucous membranes. With induced risk (ceilings) wear safety goggles.
FINISHING
Plastering of the clay boards may be done immediately after installing the boards. Always cover seams with a suitable mesh of at least 10 cm wide. Use tierrafino BASE to stick the mesh to the boards. Now moisten the boards and apply at least 10 mm of tierrafino BASE to the whole surface(consult the tierrafino BASE product sheet). When in doubt, apply a reinforcement mesh on all of the surface. After drying, more BASE can be applied or it can be decorated with a clay plaster or –paint.
CEILINGS
Only use 16 mm clay boards for ceilings. Install on sufficiently load bearing constructions. Install battens with one (1) batten space in between each pair.
Use 5 x 50 mm screws. Use rings of min. 15 mm diameter when applying clay boards to horizontal- and diagonal ceilings. Use stainless steel screws and rings in humid areas. Apply boards with 3 screws onto each batten. As an extra security, clay boards can be screwed ànd glued to flat ceilings, use construction glue or a fine clay plaster. Apply the glue/clay plaster (consult the Tierrafino Base product sheet) and distribute with a tile adhesive comb (depending on the substrate 2-8 mm thickness). Press the clay board into the glue/clay plaster and apply screws as mentioned above.
