The construction industry is one of the major contributors of carbon emissions that cause climate change. Therefore, we are looking for ways to reduce our carbon footprint to combat global warming. The use of environmentally friendly building materials is becoming increasingly important when designing a new construction project.
CLIMATE CHANGE ISSUES
Forbo aims to contribute to solving climate change issues by developing environmentally friendly flooring solutions.
Our Marmoleum floors are made from 98% natural raw materials such as linseed oil, wood flour, limestone, resin and jute. Marmoleum is unique as it has CO2 uptake in the product itself. The photosynthesis of the biobased materials used in Marmoleum provides CO2 uptake that exceeds the CO2 emissions caused by transportation and production processing. Therefore, Marmoleum is climate positive (or carbon negative) from cradle to gate.

CLEANING AND MAINTENANCE
When you take care of your floor and clean it, when necessary, it will stay beautiful for longer without the need of a wax or polymer. Good cleaning & maintenance will save time and money.
COLOUR AND DESIGN
The design and the colour choice influences the appearance over time. In a school with heavy footfall and little time for cleaning it is recommended to use more colorful outspoken marbled designs.
TO WELD OR NOT TO WELD
Marmoleum flooring does not shrink over time when properly installed. That means that welding, in the majority of cases, is not required. Skilled installers can make perfect joints without using a welding cord. With a proper Marmoleum installation you will have floor that can be cleaned with water, even when not welded.
FURNITURE PROTECTION
Let furniture move smoothly. Applying the right protection to the base of your furniture will help keep the new appearance of your floor for longer. For resilient flooring appropriate furniture protection is made of soft material (e.g. felt, tuft, TPU, PTFE), as rough and hard chair protectors will damage resilient floors. Office chairs should be equipped with wheels with a soft tread of, for example, polyurethane.
YEARS OF USE
When the basic elements are not respected any floor will show wear over time. With Marmoleum it is not necessary to change your flooring solution as it can be restored. Many years after installation you can renovate the floor to give it a second life. The better you take care of the basics, the longer it takes until you get to this point.
