DETAIL
Ronafix Pre-packed Tanking Render will produce a watertight tanking render; it is bonded to the substrate with Ronacrete Standard Primer. Ronafix Pre-packed Tanking Render will withstand water penetration by a 30m head of water; resistance to water vapour of a 12mm layer is 120 MN·s·g–1 100 times greater than the same thickness of sand/ cement.
Flexural, tensile and compressive strengths are considerably better than similar mixes of unmodified render. Typical shrinkage of Ronafix Pre-packed Render/ Screed is 0.01%, similar to that of epoxy resins. Ronafix Pre-packed Tanking Render has the highest polymer cement ratio of the Ronafix pre-packed mortars, providing the greatest flexural and tensile strengths and the greatest resistance to water/ water vapour permeability and shrinkage.
INSTRUCTIONS FOR USE
DAMPING
The prepared surface must be thoroughly dampened with clean water. All surplus and standing water must be removed before the primer is applied.
WORKING TEMPERATURES
Ronafix Pre-packed Tanking Render can be used in most weather conditions and in a wide temperature range, typically from +3°C to 25°C approximately. Note that at high ambient temperatures the working time of the mix will be reduced; it will be increased at lower temperatures. Ideally materials should be stored at 10°C to 20°C before use.
CURING
As soon as possible after finishing the surface cure with Ronacrete Curing Membrane. Alternatively use tight fitting polythene to prevent rapid moisture loss and surface cracking and crazing.
PREPARATION
The substrate on which the Ronafix Pre-packed Tanking Render is being placed must be structurally sound, stable and suitable for bonding of a strong render. Surfaces should ideally be prepared by water/grit blasting or similar means to expose the aggregate and provide a mechanical key. All grease, oil, dirt and deleterious material must be removed by vacuuming.
PRIMING
Mix Ronacrete Standard Primer with a slow speed drill and MR3 spiral paddle attachment and apply evenly to the damp surface ensuring full coverage, immediately before applying the mixed Ronafix Pre-packed Tanking Render. Only prime an area which can be covered by the render within the open time of the primer. Note that the primer must not be allowed to dry. If it dries it must be thoroughly abraded and re-applied.
MIXING
Ronafix Pre-packed Tanking Render must be in a forced action mixer (such as Baron or CreteAngle pan mixer). The Putzmeister MP25 mixing pump is suitable for sprayed applications. Smaller mixes may be mixed with a slow speed 1kW drill ≤ 500 RPM fitted with an MR4 paddle. All of both components must be added to the mixer and when evenly dispersed, but no earlier than 3 minutes, a small amount of clean water may be added if necessary, to provide sufficient workability for compaction and surface finish.
PLACING
As soon as the material is mixed it must be applied to the wet/tacky primer, using a suitable float or suitable spray equipment, ensuring total contact with the substrate and ensuring the render does not slump or slide away from the surface. Compaction and finishing must be carried out with a steel float, a dry sponge finish may be applied if required.
A stepped cove should be applied first, to ensure that render and screed are laid to staggered joints. Joints in the render and screed should also be staggered. Two or more coats of render, minimum 6mm thickness per layer, are required for tanking applications. Apply each layer after the previous layer has firmed up, sufficiently to support its weight without slumping or pulling away. Keying and priming between layers is necessary to ensure total adhesion. The minimum screed thickness is also 6mm per layer, applied in 2 layers at an overall minimum thickness of 12mm.
