properties

COMFORT AND ENERGY SAVING

-Thermal insulation and energy saving: Wood has an excellent insulation capacity, in fact its coefficient of thermal conductivity, for the same thickness, is one third of that of brick and one tenth of that of concrete. Therefore, since thermal bridges, which generate condensation and dispersions, are not created, the energy performance and living comfort of the structure improve significantly.*thermal conductivity: it is the ability of a material to conduct heat.

SOUNDPROOFING

Thanks to the elasticity and intrinsic porosity of the material, wooden beams transmit fewer vibrations to the structure than concrete and steel, thus reducing the diffusion of sound waves.

ECONOMIC SAVING

-Economic savings and speed of implementation: A laminated wood roof, being a prefabricated structure in the factory, significantly reduces construction times. In fact, the processing and treatments of each element are already completed in the factory and therefore no further finishing will be necessary after installation.
-Ideal for renovations :Once installed, the structure is immediately able to support the operating load, without maturation times, this allows you to continue with the subsequent construction phases, i.e. the assembly of the thermal package, the waterproofing and the covering, this makes it a ideal technology for renovation work , as it limits the exposure of the underlying structures to the elements.
-The renovation is then greatly facilitated by the lightness of the wood which, by greatly limiting the permanent load of the structure, makes the reinforcement works of the existing structures simpler and more economical.

DURABILITY

-Durable over time : Wooden roofing guarantees high durability over time, as demonstrated by the numerous historic structures scattered around the world and throughout our country. To date, the latest production technologies, which involve a careful drying process of the wood used for structural uses, lead to a single piece of wood having a very low relative humidity. This determines an unfavorable habitat for the settlement and survival of mold and insects. If we then add the use of new antiseptic impregnation treatments, the guarantee of durability is total.
-Little maintenance :The high durability also means reduced ordinary and extraordinary maintenance costs, which are very important for steel structures such as corrosion checks, anti-rust treatments and painting.

SOLIDITY'

-Resistance to tensile, bending and compression : The low weight and great resistance make it an exceptional material for construction, in fact, the allowable external stress load, compared to concrete produced in the factory, is slightly higher in compression and decidedly higher in traction and bending.-The resistance values of laminated wood are very similar to those of steel, compared to which it performs better in terms of peak load and bending thanks to its significantly lower weight.
-Reduced sensitivity to temperature changes :The expansion due to temperature changes is extremely limited, even the actual one is even lower than the theoretical one as it is compensated by the shrinkage due to the decrease in internal humidity, resulting from the increase in temperature. Consider that wood has a linear expansion coefficient equal to a third of that of steel.

ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT

-Wood is the only building material that comes from renewable resources , therefore with a low environmental impact.-During growth, trees transform CO 2 and water, producing oxygen. Using wood as a building material means storing, in the elements produced, all the CO 2 used by the trees. Every cubic meter of wood, used to replace other construction materials, reduces CO 2 emissions released into the atmosphere by 1.1 tonnes on average.  -Building in wood means reducing energy consumption in all phases of the building's life cycle: production, transport, construction, operation and disposal, keeping in mind that it is a totally recyclable material. Building with wood means supporting a process that promotes economic development while safeguarding the health of individuals, society and the ecosystem, without wasting resources.

ANTI-SEISMICITY

-Anti-seismic and lightweight :The lightness of wood and its elasticity make it a material particularly suitable for resisting seismic events. Having a density five times lower than concrete means receiving five times less seismic stress. Elasticity, on the other hand, allows the structure not to suffer damage from oscillations. Ultimately, a wooden structure is not only able to resist an earthquake, but also emerges from it, except in particular cases, substantially unscathed and without structural damage.

DUCTILITY'

-Right solution for every project : The great ductility of the material allows the creation, with absolute precision, of multiple extremely complex systems and highly fascinating shapes, both through wood-wood joints and through the creation of connections with metal elements.

FIRE RESISTANT

-Given that load-bearing structures never cause fire.
It is known that wood is a combustible material, but this does not mean that it does not possess fire resistance or that wooden structures are more vulnerable than steel or concrete structures. -Wood, in fact, burns very slowly, as carbonisation, which proceeds at approximately 0.7 mm per minute, slows down the spread of combustion. The structure is therefore able to resist fires decisively and for a long time, regardless of the temperature reached.

Mechanical failure occurs only when the part of the section not yet carbonized is reduced to such an extent that it is no longer able to fulfill its structural function. Furthermore, the low coefficient of thermal expansion significantly limits the thrusts exerted on the perimeter walls and therefore the risk of collapse.

We can state that the loss of efficiency of a wooden structure occurs due to the reduction of the section and not due to the decay of its mechanical characteristics. If we compare the fire behavior of wood with that of more traditional building materials used in our country, towards which there is no prejudice regarding their resistance to fire as they are not combustible materials, we understand even better why wood does not start disadvantaged but on the contrary may even be preferable:
-The structural steel elements do not burn, but undergo a rapid decay of the mechanical characteristics (strength and stiffness) as a function of the temperature; since steel is a good conductor of heat, the temperature rises rapidly throughout the section; above 500°C the steel deforms leading, in an estimated time between 5 and 10 minutes, to a collapse of the structure.
-In reinforced concrete structural elements, the steel is protected by a concrete cover of variable thickness and, what is worse, it is sometimes made up in some areas of poorly compacted and poorly homogeneous concrete. These weak points, in the case of a fire, become preferential channels for heat flow, causing a localized increase in temperature which can exceed 500°C in a very short time even in the presence of a relatively thick concrete cover.

VENTILATED ROOF

-The roof (in the summer season) and the underlying environment (in the winter season) are the sources of heat transfer to the air stored inside the ventilation chamber.
-The ventilated roof is a system of complementary elements that together contribute to achieving high performance of the roofing package such as " Living Comfort " and " Energy Savings ".The air inside the ventilation chamber is set in motion thanks to the temperature difference.
-In summer the temperature difference is given by the overheating of the roof covering and the air present in the ventilation chamber (room temperature).

-In winter the temperature difference is generated by the heat coming from the environment below and by the temperature of the air inside the ventilation chamber .
-The air, by increasing its temperature , consequently increases its volume and decreases its density, thus triggering the upward motion (from the eaves to the ridge) of the air inside the cavity, attracting fresh air from the section of entrance present along the entire gutter line and allowing its exit along the section on the ridge line.

ADVANTAGES

-I
n summer the ventilation chamber allows the heat accumulated on the roof due to solar radiation to be eliminated, preventing its radiation towards the interior, thus improving the living comfort of the rooms below with consequent energy savings. -In winter the updraft keeps the thermal insulation dry, thus eliminating condensation and/or mold phenomena inside it and guaranteeing the durability of the roof's construction elements over time.

Costantinilegno Wooden Roofs

-In the presence of snow, melting occurs gradually depending on the external temperature, avoiding slipping with consequent accumulations of ice on the eaves of the roof and therefore damaging it.Thanks to the ventilated roof, the insulation does not receive heat from the covering by direct conduction, working in its optimal performance conditions.

DESIGN

-I
n addition to the important advantages linked to the physical performance of the material, the wooden roof boasts an undeniable ductility which makes it suitable for any solution.
-Wood is a naturally noble and elegant material that maintains an unchanged beauty over time and gives the warmth of a welcoming environment .

Anyone who wants to give prestige to their home cannot do without a wooden roof, which, thanks to an attractive and totally personalized design , gives that extra touch of style that gives absolute value to the entire structure.
