Novacolor Nets Wallpaper
Nets WALLPAPER
NETS WALLPAPER
The Be Grateful Wall Paper collection takes you on a journey through different landscapes and cultures, to oriental countries such as China and the fishing nets used by fishermen in Quanzhou, which inspired the 'Fields' pattern.
For this collection, warm and bright colours have been chosen, enriched by metallic details. Called 'Cheena Vala' in the local language, in practice they are hoisting nets, fixed land-fishing installations on which six fishermen work on each.
The structures are about 10 metres high with a horizontal net of about 20 metres square, a sort of "hammock" stretched out and suspended over the sea that can be easily lowered into the water by means of a counterweight at the other end.
In use for over 500 years, these oversized fishing nets have become a popular tourist attraction over the years. Their size and elegant construction are photogenic and the slow pace of their operation makes them mesmerising.
Sunrise and sunset are the best times to see Chinese fishing nets at work, in use on the south coast of China in Quanzhou 泉州, Indochina. Also introduced in the Indian city of Cochin കൊച്ചി (co-chin' means 'like China'), where they were brought by Chinese exporter Zheng He in the 14th century, when a flood formed a natural harbour, Cheena Vala are fishing nets for daily sustenance with a unique design made of bamboo and teak poles, to withstand the centuries. BACKGROUND PREPARATION AND APPLICATION
-(Referred to environmental conditions T=25° C, RH=60%) The surface must be dry, stable and free of separating agents (dust, grease, etc.). It is necessary to first remove old wallpaper, paint and damaged plaster. Sandy, dusty and highly absorbent surfaces must be previously treated with Decofix, water-based consolidating fixative. -With smooth wallpaper supported by paper and vinyl wallpaper supported by T.N.T. paper, the adhesive can be applied on the back of the wallpaper, directly with a brush or roller. After a short time of wetting, the paper is applied onto the wall, placing it edge to edge or overlapping, and is rolled with a rubber roller, making the air escape completely. -For heavy vinyl wall coverings or those supported by vinyl rather than paper, follow the procedure described above, taking care not to allow the adhesive to react for more than 5 minutes and, if necessary, to apply a small amount to the inner edge (in the case of edge-to-edge application). -For the adhesion of fabric-background textiles and PVC, glass fabrics, Wallpaper Paste is applied directly to the wall using a pile roller; then, the coating is applied by pressing it from the centre towards the corners. In all cases, smears of excess adhesive must be removed as quickly as possible with a clean sponge dampened with (preferably warm) water.
WALLPAPER LAYING
-Check that the paper rolls are not damaged and that the designs and colourings are correct. -Remove the plates of the electrical switches and sockets. -Remove the skirting board and coping (frame-covers) of doors and windows. -Draw, in the blind corner (behind the door), reference marks on the wall. Using a tape measure, draw a smaller width (3-5 cm) of the sheet on the wall, making several marks starting from the top downwards. Lower the plumb-line and make marks on the wall. Measure the height of the wall. Check for pattern repetition, then cut the lengths according to wall height, leaving an excess of 5-8 cm, at the top and bottom, for trimming. -Use roller to evenly apply WallPaper Paste, unthinned, to a portion of the surface equal in width to the sheet of WallPaper.
-Use a brush to apply the adhesive to bond the WallPaper Paste, working from the centre towards the outside of the sheet. Make sure the adhesive is well distributed around the edges, but avoid it coming into contact with the side of the paper that has the pattern. In they accidentally come into contact, use a damp sponge to clean and remove the adhesive immediately, then dry with a white cotton cloth. -Lay the sheet onto the surface to cover, positioning it correctly according to the marks and drawing. Use a plastic wallpaper spatula to pass over the paper again to release any trapped air. Promptly remove any spills/excess of adhesive! Continue until the surface to cover is completed. -Drying time: about 24 hours depending on the type of substrate, its absorption rate, and environmental conditions.
