Mutina Celosia Partition Walls
CELOSIA PARTITION WALLS
CELOSIA PARTITION WALLS
Designed by Patricia Urquiola
Celosia is a new take on the artisanal production process typical of terracotta with the aim of giving birth to imperfect and tactile elements that come from earth, marked by the hand of man and time passing by.
Roof tiles, bricks, hollow bricks and partition walls are undone, unstructured and re-interpreted in a new way, keeping the traditional touch given by the handcrafted production.

Aesthetically unique and extremely functional design elements are thus created, in the 20,5x26,5x10 cm nominal size. They allow limitless solutions for indoors and outdoors, in both commercial and residential spaces.

She designed numerous collections, including Déchirer, Bas-Relief, Azulej, Tierras, Déchirer XL, Celosia, El Lobo, Mater, Chamotte, e Jali. " I needed a real, tacile matter, which did not pretend to be anything else. I was looking for a warm element, both visually and to the touch. "
She studied architecture at the Technical University of Madrid and the Polytechnic University of Milan, where she graduated in 1989 and Achille Castiglioni oversaw her graduate thesis. In the early years of her career, she was assistant lecturer to Achille Castiglioni, she collaborated with Vico Magistretti and was Head of Design at Lissoni Associati.
She opened her own studio in 2001, working in product design, interior design and architecture. Her most recent projects have included: the Jewellery Museum in Vicenza, the Mandarin Oriental Hotel in Barcelona, Das Stue hotel in Berlin, the Spa at the Four Seasons Hotel in Milan; retail and fitting projects for Gianvito Rossi, BMW, Flos, Missoni, Moroso, Officine Panerai, H&M, Santoni and Pitti Uomo.
“It’s a great journey, the one with Mutina. Full of empathy and change. The thing that hasn’t changed is the fact that we still have fun and worry like we did at the beginning. We still ask each other many questions that get more and more complex. We are self-critical and never settle for less.”
Urquiola has won several international prizes, including: Medalla de Oro al Mérito en las Bellas Artes and the Order of Isabella the Catholic, awarded to her by King Juan Carlos I of Spain, “Designer of the Decade” and “Designer of the Year”.
