Canopies grace the front of many buildings, offering a design feature that highlights the entrance and provides protection to visitors coming and going. Illuminating a translucent canopy also provides visual protection at night and helps with wayfinding.
When well designed, a building canopy can create a safer entryway by minimizing light contrast ratios so that the transition from outside to inside doesn’t hinder eyesight—which is especially important for aging populations.
The light levels outside can be up to 1000 times brighter than inside spaces, and this excessive difference can create dangerous and harmful situations where people are temporarily disoriented and need to stop while their eyes adjust. Kalwall’s translucency softens this transition.

LOW MAINTENANCE
Self-cleaning surface, meaning normal rainfall helps to keep the exterior free of sediment while at the same time retaining its original color during the weathering process. Dirt and debris are less obvious on Kalwall than on glass.
Kalwall panels are mildew, fungus, corrosion and termite resistant. Kalwall’s durable, non-porous system resists the elements, acids, alkalis and common solvents. If maintenance is required, staff can safely walk across man-safe roof and canopies. Interior surfaces are easily sanitized for proper hygiene. Kalwall Corrosion Resistant Finish (KCRF™) is formulated per AAMA 2605, and meets or exceeds performance requirements for AAMA 2604.
SAFETY + SECURITY
Kalwall is completely shatterproof and impact resistant with options that are even tougher than standard faces. Translucency offers total visual privacy from the outside, while nighttime illumination of entryways and exterior facades provides a friendly, safe environment via backlighting that emits a soft glow without light pollution.
Panels can be easily cleaned, providing vandal and graffiti resistance. Systems also meet these codes:

LIFE CYCLE & RESILIENCY
Panels are manufactured to last and are weather tested for UV, high humidity and cold environments. Kalwall Weatherable Coating (KWS) technology aids in the panel’s self-cleaning properties and provides additional resistance to UV and heat exposure for lasting performance.
In the event of extreme weather, Kalwall offer high impact resistance, better than most glass and polycarbonate.
